So, we had trick-or-treat in our town last night.
Iron Man and Thomas the Train are raring to go.
We went to my cousin’s house, to my Grandma’s, and to our town square. On the square they have “Trunk or Treat”, everyone pulls their cars around and passes out candy from the trunks of their cars. It’s really fun, and easier than dragging the kids all over town.
Needless to say, the boys cashed in on candy.
And this doesn’t count what we ate in the car.
It doesn’t count what my husband and I ate after the boys went to bed.
It doesn’t count what I ate at 2:30 this morning.
And strangely enough, it was a chocolate extravaganza.
So here I am with all this chocolate.
And here I am with this phyllo dough that I have no idea what I’m going to make with.
Saaaay…what if I made candy bar pies?
Like, somehow, wrap candy bars in phyllo dough and bake it?
Well, great balls of fire! Let’s try it.
Having no idea how to tackle phyllo dough, I turned to this thread on seriouseats.com where they discussed how to fill phyllo dough without the insides coming out.
Here’s what they suggested.
1 leaf of phyllo, lengthwise. Brush with melted butter.
Stack on another sheet of phyllo…
Then slice in half, lengthwise. I put a little Snickers on the first one. ‘Cause let’s start with the good ones, shall we?
Now we fold up…like we’re folding up a flag…
Hershey’s bar? Sure!
Reese’s Cups? Okay, but don’t tell Joey. Those are his fave.
These are mini Snickers. So let’s use two.
Onto a baking sheet, 350 for 15 minutes…
A little powdered sugar and cocoa powder never hurts.
Did ya really think I would get through this post without a cheesy Halloween reference?
Peanut Butter Cup.
